Fitbit Blaze: Fitness Smart Watch

2015: Smartwatch, Embedded OS

The Fitbit Blaze was Fitbit’s first color display device, and its initial foray into the smartwatch market. We took Fitbit’s activity tracking and fitness experiences, and augmented them with notifications, music playback features, and lightweight apps.

In addition to the core feature set, we worked with feature teams to bring their own experiences to the wrist, such as Fitstar guided workouts, reminders to move, and guided breathing. Read more…

HealthMap: Personal Health Monitor

2013: Web, Application, Identity

HealthMap is an interactive website for patients with HIV and their healthcare providers to share health information and test results. Patients, along with doctors and coaches, identify health goals and ways to achieve them.

This Project was done on contract with an interaction designer, in conjunction with the client’s development team, who prototyped the application as it was designed. The study has concluded, and is in its evaluation phase. Read more…

mHealth: Epilepsy Management App

2012: Mobile Application Design

mHealth is a health management app to help patients with epilepsy cope with their condition. This was a pilot program intended to extend to multiple chronic conditions.

We conducted doctor interviews and in-home patient reseach, and determined the areas where we could provide the most help were memory aides, a community support group, and a check-in feature that would alert a caregiver if the patient left home and became unresponsive. Read more…

Great Food Fast: Disney Restaurants Platform

A robust discovery and pre-order system for all Disney restaurants world-wide. This system consists of a web interface showcasing Disney’s table service and quick service restaurants, party management for reservations, and a point of sale terminal to give servers and cashiers more control over the ordering and payment experience. Lead Designer – Watches
Creating the platform future Fitbit watches will be built on. Establishing tools and guidelines for designers and developers to effortlessly create new features for watches, and expand the Fitbit ecosystem.

Senior Designer
Ported key Fitbit features to our Android app, and established the current visual design language for mobile graphs across all platforms. Concepted and designed all components of the Fitbit Blaze, taking it from concept to production as part of a two-person design team. Continued to support Fitbit Blaze post-launch.

Motion, visual, interaction, research, strategy. Led visual design for large end-to-end research and strategy programs including a big data based healthcare program, and exploration into the future of consumer messaging behavior. Most fun: Multi-city participatory research and design sessions.

Visual Designer II
Motion, visual and interaction design for hardware and software programs. Biggest challenge: A mobile banking system to be built and extended by our client’s in-house design team.

Visual Designer I
Motion and visual design across multiple domains, including telecom, entertainment and healthcare. Proudest accomplishment: A complete motion framework for a ground-up mobile operating system we designed and built in-house.

Co-founder – txt2wrk

2011 – 2015

txt2wrk enables those disconnected from the online job market to find and apply to jobs using SMS. As a co-founder, I created the company’s identity, and the visual and experience design for our caseworker platform. txt2wrk won Best Application at the Code for Oakland hackathon, and third prize with Best Use of SMS in the Apps for Communities national competition.

University of Cincinnati, DAAP

2003 – 2008

The College of Design at the University of Cincinnati teaches traditional graphic design, then adds interaction design, screen design, animation and programming along with a combined year-and-a-half of internships with established design firms.
